Dr. Weinberg is Director of Ludwig Center for Cancer Research at MIT and Founder of Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research. He is a pioneer in oncogene research area and was awarded National Medal of Science in 1997. He is best known for his discoveries of the first human oncogene Ras and the first tumor suppressor gene Rb. He authored the fundamental textbook The Biology of Cancer. Dr. Weinberg was elected as member of National Academy of Science, member of Institute of Medicine and fellow of American Academy of Arts & Sciences. Dr. Weinberg co-authored The Hallmarks of Cancer together with Dr. Douglas Hanahan.
